Solar energy has become Brazil's third-largest energy source, according to a study released by the Brazilian Solar Energy Association (Absolar). To give you an idea, since 2012, solar has already brought more than R$ 86.2 billion in new investments to Brazil and reduced CO2 in the atmosphere by 23.6 million tonnes, in addition to generating more than 479.8 thousand jobs. This growth is based on the combination of sustainability and cheap energy, fundamental aspects in the decision-making of consumers and the productive sector.
With an eye on these advantages, the construction sector has also been turning its attention to renewable energy. One example is Pormade, Brazil's largest door manufacturer, which since 2000 has not used any wood that does not come from renewable forests.
To this end, the company has around 520 hectares of planted area and is investing in clean energy generation and reducing gas emissions. More than 3 thousand panels have already been installed, and the goal is to end this year with 10 thousand photovoltaic panels in operation.
Another point worth highlighting: affordable housing is also already being built with photovoltaic power generation systems. In 2019, 18 developments by the Housing and Urban Development Company were delivered, totaling 1,450 housing units in cities in the interior of São Paulo state.
Also according to Absolar, many engineering firms have been including solar micro- and mini-generation systems in their plans.
The initiative to invest in sustainable systems lies in each company's particular drive to have something extra to compete and stand out in the market.
