Poultry farming, which is the raising of birds for food production (such as meat and eggs), is one of the pillars of Brazil's food industry.

In April 2022 alone, Brazilian chicken meat exports (considering all products, both fresh and processed) totaled 418.2 thousand tonnes, according to data from the Brazilian Animal Protein Association (ABPA).

As for eggs, national production, also according to ABPA, exceeded 53 billion units in 2020, almost entirely for domestic consumption.

These figures show the great importance of poultry farming in the country's industry, as well as in Brazilians' daily diet.

Modern industry = more quality and efficiency

As in all industrial sectors, the modernization of poultry farming offers many benefits. With growing awareness among the population and producers, animal welfare is one of the biggest concerns during this process.

– Genetic research

Because this is an industry that deals with animal husbandry, genetic innovations are important factors when we talk about modernization. Through studies on nutrition, animal health and other areas, meat and eggs can reach consumers' tables with higher nutritional quality, as well as a better quality of life for the birds (excluding the use of growth hormones, for example).

– Modernization of poultry houses

For many decades, poultry farming activities around the world were precarious, and poultry houses were one of the clearest signs of these outdated practices, creating terrible conditions for the birds.

Modern poultry houses offer a number of benefits, such as climate control, which brings more comfort and quality of life to the birds, and automation, which provides better management and efficiency in the process of caring for, feeding and treating the birds.

One of the most widely used concepts today is “cage free”, which allows birds to live without being confined to cages, with more freedom and less stress, which also results in better products.

– Sustainability

Sustainability is the greatest concern of all industries when we talk about the future, and poultry farming is no different.

To this end, the use of technology will be essential in areas such as: waste analysis for reuse, study of ecological impacts, equipment automation and development of more sustainable technologies.

The modernization of poultry farming will bring benefits, create jobs, and improve the quality of life of the birds, as well as the product that reaches consumers.
